The Choice – A Role Play Game
A role-play game about democracy, participation and active citizenship
The Choice is an educational board game that invites young people to experience democracy from the inside.
Set in a fictional town, players take on different roles and pursue their own secret objectives while working together to improve their community. Through cooperation, negotiation and debate, they discover how individual interests can interact with the common good.
The game culminates in an election for a new mayor. Players present their visions, try to convince others and make choices together—experiencing the challenges and possibilities of democratic decision-making in a playful and engaging way.
The Choice was developed with European partners through the Let’s Vote project, exploring how non-formal education and gamification can make topics such as voting, elections and civic participation more accessible and meaningful to young people.
Helping young people discover the power of democratic participation.
The game was developped in the collaborative project Let’s Vote dedicated to encouraging young people to engage more actively in democratic life. Together with our European partners, we explored how non-formal education and gamification can help make complex topics such as voting, elections and civic participation more accessible, relevant and engaging for young people.
The project brought together youth workers and young people to develop practical educational tools that encourage critical thinking, informed decision-making and active citizenship. By promoting dialogue, participation and a better understanding of democratic processes, Definition aimed to strengthen young people’s confidence in their ability to shape the communities and societies they live in.
