Combining theatre of the oppressed, commedia del arte and circus methodology.

The C Revolution is an Erasmus+ Cooperation Partnership (KA220-YOU) that supported youth workers and young people in using creative, arts-based methods to strengthen participation, inclusion and personal development. We combined Theatre of the Oppressed, circus pedagogy and performance-based learning to create safe spaces for expression, dialogue and empowerment.

The Methodology

The methodology developed through Commedia dell’Arte, Theatre of the Oppressed and Social Circus aims to empower youth workers to strengthen young people’s agency and motivate them to take action for social inclusion. By combining these three complementary artistic approaches, the project united youth workers from within and beyond the partnership to create an engaging, practice-based methodology that can be applied at local level with diverse groups of young people.

The project introduced an innovative and alternative approach to social inclusion by using embodied, participatory and creative tools that work well in non-formal education and reduce barriers linked to language, confidence or previous experience. The methodology was designed to build participants’ competences and support their personal and professional development. It strengthens inclusive facilitation skills, communication, teamwork and reflection, while also contributing to increased self-esteem, confidence and employability.

Manual

This manual is designed for a broad spectrum of individuals and organisations engaged in youth work, education, and community development. It aims to serve those who seek creative, inclusive, and participatory methods to support young people from diverse social and cultural backgrounds.

The purpose of this manual is to provide comprehensive, practical, and adaptable set of tools that use Commedia dell’Arte, Social Circus, and Theatre of the Oppressed to foster social inclusion among young people.
